Fickle Fork of Fate

The Not About A Mosque Farm Report

Another week, another CSA box.

Tossed a bag of greens that went bad on the inside while looking good on the outside, a small quantity of herbs, a few cherry tomatoes... really just the last bits of a few things I used some of.

This week!

  • A handful of basil
  • Another watermelon - must eat last week's tonight!
  • Some more bell peppers - one green and a couple of tiny reds
  • The usual head of garlic
  • A couple of big-ass shallots
  • A couple of banana peppers
  • A shitload of beets, which I was not expecting.
  • Three cucumbers
  • Even more carrots
  • Even more broccoli
  • Another bag of edamame, for which I have acquired sea salt
  • Lacinato Kale, which is a lot like dinosaur only less dinosaury.
  • Six ears of sweet corn

The beets are going to be the big challenge. Everything else falls into regular cooking patterns except the kale, but I am now laden with beets and that needs to be dealt with.

Greens and Beets

1. Greens that look good on the outside but have gone bad on the inside - they're secretly using all that compost at the co-op to power a doomsday weapon!

2. My past experiences with beets have been unpleasant. I'm willing to be convinced by your gentle expertise, as in so many things, in the spirit of being a grown-up and trying yukky things such as olives every few years to see if I can stand them yet because that would make life so much easier on us all, but I remain fearful.

My Recaptcha is, I swear, "ugficket te." It's like half mutated pig Latin and half real Latin, and it's impolite.
