Fickle Fork of Fate

Archer Farms Thick-Cut Chips: TAKE TWO

Oh, I will work my way through all of these flavors eventually, in the hopes of finding a good one. I picked up two more bags at Target today.

GENERAL TSO'S:

OK, these chips are flavored. Good to know that problem is solved, in any event. The overall flavor is initially sweet and a bit tangy, and then you get hit with a bit of a spicy afterburn. I'm not sure how particularly Asian or General Tso's they are - they fall well within the family tree of "barbecue" flavor chips, although not as strong.Might not be a bad choice for those twice-a-year barbecue potato chip cravings, but like the rest, more inoffensive than MUST BUY MORE.

FIRE-ROASTED FAJITA:

Before I take a bite out of these, let me tell you what "fire-roasted fajita" tells me. Char, smokiness, spicy heat, some vegetation, and maybe some vague meatiness.

And... holy shit. I swear I was setting this up so that I could make a list of how many of those things these chips failed on. But I'm actually getting most of that. There's a really nice savory quality, some good heat, a touch of smoke and char, and some nice onion/pepper flavors. It's taken me four bags, but Archer Farms has finally given me a new flavored chip I really like.

This is going to turn out like the anti-Star Wars, where the middle chapter is the only one with a happy ending, I think.
