Fickle Fork of Fate

Agricultural Products

The title will be funnier tomorrow morning for those of you who double-dip the Lambert goodness. Farm box!

First, as always, the discards:

  • Broccoli: It was waning before Cathy went out of town. Afterwards, it waned.
  • "Red Mustard": Not only did I not know what it was or how to use it, I also didn't know how to store it.
  • Snap Peas: Just like ten of them, though - the ones from two weeks back that went a bit limp on me.

And now, the first week of produce I get to go through bachelor-style.

  • Kale. The first kale of the season always makes me think calo verde - but I'll need to truck down to the Midtown Global Market for some decent andouille or chorizo first.
  • Grape tomatoes - just a tiny half-pint of scavenged early birds.
  • A very large bag of green beans. And I haven't quite finished last week's green beans yet, despite getting them into at least two dishes.
  • Arugula - only about half what we got  the first two weeks, so I should be able to use most of it.
  • Broccoli - this will be parceled out to friends and/or family.
  • One garlic, one onion, one pattypan - as per usual, all very usable.
  • Two red savoy cabbage. I am starting to develop a serious cabbage problem. I mean, sure, the shit keeps, but I now have a tiny bit of the savoy from three weeks ago, the entire head of red from two weeks ago, and one-and-a-bit of the napa from one week ago.
  • Fresh mint - I can find ways to use this for sure.
  • Only two handfuls of carrots this week. The carrots are also getting out of hand, since I don't really like them a ton and Cathy's not around to snack on them.
  • Three regular cucumbers and three very large "pickling" cucumbers. I now have nearly 4.25 POUNDS of cucumbers in my refrigerator after using 3 out of 4 of last week's cucumbers. What was that about soup?
  • Another head of that freakass iceberg lettuce. I should really take a picture of it. I'm draining it in the sink now because it was crazy full of water.
  • One normal-sized zucchini. SHouldn't be a problem, even though I only used half of last week's.
