Right. Time for a bit of a farm box update.

At the end of Week 2, I was surprised to find that all I've thrown out so far was half a bag of arugula and a couple of wilted scallions. Everything else had been either cooked with/prepped in some way, or was still good (kohlrabi, potatoes). All that was left to do to get ready for Box 3 was to chop the remaining green garlic in the food processor and then freeze it.

Thursday's box was redolent with variety, but was actually less overwhelming in quantity than I'd feared. Two pattypan squashes, one fat zucchini, a bunch of scallions, a small head of lettuce, five garlic scapes, the usual big bunch of green garlic, two pints of strawberries, a bunch of radishes, a big bunch of collard greens, 1 broccoli, 2 cauliflower, 1 fennel, 1 bunch of parsley, and a sprig of basil.

Thursday night was tacos that I'll be writing up as a separate post, but I used zucchini, green garlic (from the freezer), a couple of the scallions, and some radishes at various points. Saturday night was a rosemary chicken pasta, using most of the Week 2 rosemary, the rest of the zucchini, all of the garlic scapes, and the basil. Plus my own tomatoes and sundried tomatoes.

Half the strawberries went over some of Cathy's homemade shortcake. I know I live up to certain stereotypes by being relatively incompetent at and/or impatient with baking, but I can't help it. OK, I could help it, but I can't be bothered to.

Thinking ahead, tonight I think I'm going to use the collard greens with some pork tenderloin and possibly some kind of salad. The cauliflower will probably end up in a curry early next week. Cathy will deal with the vile broccoli. The fennel, the pattypans, and the parsley have as yet no specific destination - I don't want to just dump the pattypans in the curry, I want to experience them in a relatively pure form the first time. But hell, I've got one whole unplanned meal before the next box arrives, right?

OK. Off to Costco for pork tenderloin. Nothing like Costco on a Sunday morning when everyone else is in church. GO TEAM ATHEIST!
